From the Organizer
Connor is one of our favorite HIGH 5 Soccer players! He’s been playing for more than 5 years—always with a smile on his face that brings joy to everyone he meets. We were shocked to learn that he was recently diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome, a degenerative, terminal disease with no known cure. We knew we had to help.
All proceeds from our HIGH 5K for Connor will help fund the first-ever clinical trial for his specific type of Sanfilippo (Type C). The sooner funds are raised, the sooner the trial can begin. Connor and the other children with Sanfilippo don’t have time to wait because of the disease's rapid progression. Please visit Connor’s site to learn more about him, his family and the disease they are fighting.
We hope you’ll join the HIGH 5 community to help make the cure happen in time for Connor. Thank you!
RACE INFO -- Super important stuff -- please read!
+ To comply with CDC guidelines, the 5k, youth run, and fun run will have an open start—you can begin any time between 9-10 a.m. and must finish by 11:30 a.m. The race will be scored with the RFID chip in your race bib using your individual start and finish times. If you’d like to do a virtual run, see the Q&A below the course map.
+ Masks must be worn in the registration area. Participants do not need to wear a mask during their warm-up away from the registration area or while running the race. Participants may wear a mask during race if they choose.
+ Pick up your race bib/packet at the race start at Marsh Creek State Park.
+ After you complete your race, take a selfie with Connor, share at #raceforconnor, and head over to Liberty Union. They will donate 20% to the fundraiser for **eat-in and phone-in takeout.** Sunday, 12-9 pm and Monday, 4-9 pm. They can't donate for online or delivery orders.
+ The 5k is a trail run on pavement, gravel and grass, so we don't advise running with strollers because of the varied terrain. The youth run and fun run will take place on a flat paved course.
+ There will not be a physical awards ceremony. All participants will receive an emailed certificate with their name, time, rank, and place. Results are available online instantaneously when the participant finishes. Virtual participants can submit their times before the course closes at 11:30 a.m. to receive a certificate.
+ When you enter Marsh Creek park, follow the signs to parking lot at the top of the hill (near the swimming pool).
+ The race map is below:
You can also do a virtual race!
What is a virtual race?
A virtual race is a run that can be done anywhere you choose, at any pace. You can even use your treadmill. We welcome runners, walkers, and joggers of any age—anyone who wants to help Connor by raising money for the clinical trial.
How does it work?
You have all day Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28, until 11:30 a.m. to record your race. You choose the date, the course, and the time. Submit these results back to us, and we will combine and post all results.
All runners will be emailed instructions and a link to submit results. We will also have all runners submit a screen shot or GPS watch image to verify distance and time. We are all on the honor system :-) Overall and age-group winners results will be reviewed and verified.
Can I use social media to publicize my run?
You bet! Use #raceforconnor to show the online world your effort, take a selfie, share your racecourse, your bib, and your story!
