From the Organizer
Take the Lake is a 5K fundraising Run and Walk around Wakefield's scenic Lake Quannapowitt. We pride ourselves on hosting an event which satisfies serious runners and casual walkers and runners alike.
Our goal is to raise money and awareness for great organizations that strive to fight breast cancer. In 2017 we will once again support the ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund. In 17 years we have now raised almost $250,000 for cancer related charities.
Please join us for our family friendly - walker and runner friendly event as we celebrate survivorship and support organizations that fight cancer!
What is Take the Lake?
The Take the Lake 5K is a charity run and walk around Wakefield's beautiful Lake Quannapowitt. (Our bicycling component goes on a slightly different route). Since the founding of the race seventeen years ago, over 6,000 local walkers and runners have participated in the event and we have raised $245,000 for three cancer related charities including ESSCO-MGH, The American Cancer Society and The New England Community for Cancer Survivorship).
This year, proceeds will be donated to ESSCO-MGH, an organization that funds vital breast cancer research at the Mass General Hospital.
We hope you can join us for our 18th annual event on June 25th, 2017! Year after year, runners and walkers, family and friends, children and grandparents have universally enjoyed this event.
Participate as a Team!
We are inviting groups to participate as teams. Form a team with your co-workers or friends, or in honor of a loved one affected by cancer. The number of team members is unlimited and your team shirts, hats etc. are only limited to your imagination. Build a little team spirit with your friends or co-workers at Take the Lake 5K. And now, with the online team registration and fundraising system we are using - you can make it easy for team members and friends to sponsor and support you - or to register as a member of your team.
