The Halloween Trick or Trot will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Hillside Elementary School in Needham, MA. Come join us for a fun and healthy Halloween-themed event. Costumes are not mandatory, but are strongly encouraged!
Event Details:
Check-in: The event day check-in/registration will begin at 7 a.m. on October 25th. Just be sure to leave yourself enough time to park! If you have not already pre-registered for the race by 6 pm on Saturday, 10/24, you will be able to complete a registration form at Hillside when you show up on Sunday, 10/25. We are accepting the following forms of payment on-site: cash, check, or credit card. Credit cards will be subject to a convenience fee.
Kids Fun Run: The Monster Fun Run for children ages 12 years and under starts at 8:30 AM and will take place at the Hillside Elementary School field.
5K: The 5K Run/Walk starts and ends at the Hillside Elementary School in Needham, MA. The 5K will begin right after the Monster Fun Run ends - approximately 9 a.m. People of all ages are welcome to participate. Awards will follow the completion of the 5K and will take place at Hillside Elementary School.
Race Proceeds: This race is hosted in an effort to raise money for the Hillside Elementary School. This year, we are helping the Hillside Elementary Student Council raise funds to purchase soccer nets for the school community. While the event is raising money for Hillside, we hope to make it a community-wide event and invite everyone to join. We hope to see the streets of Needham filled with fun costumes!
Registration: The 5K will cost $27.50 (includes registration + service fee) per participant if you pre-register before 6 p.m., October 24, 2015 (pre-registration closes at that time) and $11.50 (includes registration + service fee) for the Monster Fun Run. All children aged 12 years and under that register for the 5K receive complimentary admission into the Monster Fun Run. People ages 13 years and above are not eligible to register for the Monster Fun Run.
Note, if you sign up a child aged 12 years or younger for the 5K, you do not need to also sign them up for the Fun Run - they will get the bib for the 5K and will have automatic entry into the Fun Run if they want to participate. They will also be automatically eligible for the free prize that is given to all fun run participants as a part of their 5K entry.
Day of race registration will be $32.50 per 5K participant and $17 for Monster Fun Run participant.
5K Details and Course: The 5K will be chip-timed. We have designed a 5K course that should appeal to a wide range of participants, from walkers and novice runners to the elite runners. Both runners and walkers of all levels are welcome to complete the same 5K loop. Please note, streets will remain open to traffic, so please follow the regular rules of the road and stay to the sides. Parents, please watch your children - we welcome everyone to run and will have lots of volunteers and a few police officers working with us, but you are ultimately responsible for your own child. Dogs are not allowed. Strollers, if in use, are strongly encouraged to stay on sidewalks or to the sides to ensure that no runners are impeded. The 5K route will have signs and volunteers directing the way. There will be a water station along the route.
Awards: The top 3 overall male and female runners will receive prizes. There will also be medals for top 3 females and males by age category (<13, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+). We will also be giving several special prizes to those with the best costumes. All children registered for the Monster Fun Run will receive a prize.
Travel and Parking: For those driving, Hillside Elementary School is located at 28 Glen Gary Rd, Needham, MA. The easiest route is Exit 19B off of Route 128/I-95. Take Highland Ave to West Street. Glen Gary is off of West St.
Parking in the school lot is tight, so we encourage you to plan accordingly and/or carpool. We will have overflow parking at the Senior Center parking lot (located at the intersection of Hillside and West Streets - right near the Needham Heights MBTA Commuter Rail Station). There are side streets within a relatively close walk to the school on which you can park. Please be mindful of our Needham neighbors!
